Hilma Hughes   has been drawing and painting since childhood. She had decided on her profession at that young age when she declared that she "would be an artist when she grew up." She received a B.S. in Art from Southwest Missouri State in Springfield, and taught art to children in kindergarten through 12th grade. This was a very rewarding period in her life. Now she has her own shop where she sells and exhibits her work. Commissioned work, such as portraits of pets and family members, comprise the majority of her work now. She truly enjoys creating a pictorial memory of a loved one or pet that is close to the heart of her customer. Working from photographs, she completes these works in pastels, oil, or acrylics. She has available a series of limited edition prints of Alley Mill, one of the most photographed mills in Missouri. She also rendered a picture of the famous Missouri wild horses which she donated to the Wild Horse League. Proceeds from the print are used to defray the legal expenses of the League in their efforts to save and protect the wild horses in their natural habitat.
